It was an epic Showdown like no other as TNA battled NXT for supremacy.
First up was a high-stakes Winners Take All Match between TNA World Tag Team Champions The Hardys and NXT Tag Team Champions DarkState.
All four members of DarkState jumped The Hardys before the match began. The referee would eject Cutler James and Saquon Shugars from ringside, leaving Dion Lennox and Osiris Griffin to battle The Hardys.
As their Bound For Glory opponents, Team 3D, watched on from the crowd, Matt wiped out Lennox with a Twist of Fate, before Jeff put him away with the Swanton Bomb. With that historic victory, The Hardys are the new NXT Tag Team Champions, marking the first time TNA Wrestlers have captured an NXT Championship.
The first of two Survivor Series style matches saw the Knockouts of TNA (Knockouts World Champion Kelani Jordan, Knockouts World Tag Team Champions The IInspiration and Mara Sadè) battle the women of NXT (NXT Women's Champion Jacy Jayne, NXT Women's North American Champion Sol Ruca, Lola Vice and Jaida Parker), with Jordynne Grace as Special Guest Referee.
The action was fast and furious as Sadè rolled up Parker for the first elimination. However, the advantage did not last long with Ruca pinning Sadè just moments later with a Sol Snatcher.
Vice knocked out Lee with a spinning backfist for the next elimination. Then, Vice locked in a submission on McKay, forcing her to submit.
The IInspiration would get involved after being eliminated, distracting referee Grace in the process. As a result, Jordan was unable to secure a pinfall after having Jayne down and out.
Jayne and Vice began to argue, allowing Jordan to capitalize and eliminate Vice with an Angle Slam.
In the end, Ruca laid out Jordan with the Sol Snatcher but Jayne tagged herself in to score the final elimination, awarding the victory to Team NXT.
The NXT North American Championship was up for grabs when TNA's Mustafa Ali challenged NXT's Ethan Page.
Page earned the early advantage when he whipped Ali face-first into the steel ring post. Page remained in control for several minutes, but Ali would not stay down.
Ali dove through the ropes with a shot of adrenaline as both men went flying over the announce desk. Ali's foot was caught on a microphone cord, allowing Page to send him crashing off the top rope to the floor. Page would connect with the Twisted Grin to retain his title.
The main event of Showdown featured the second Survivor Series style match as Team TNA (Mike Santana, Moose, TNA X-Division Champion Leon Slater and TNA International Champion Frankie Kazarian) collided with Team NXT (TNA World Champion Trick Williams, NXT Champion Ricky Saints, Je'Von Evans and Myles Borne) with Joe Hendry as Special Guest Referee.
TNA was on the board early as Kazarian hit Borne with the Slingshot Cutter for the first elimination.
The second elimination occured when Slater rolled up Evans for three. They will face off for the X-Division Title this Sunday at Bound For Glory.
Williams dropped off the apron, abandoning his team and leaving Saints to fight alone.
Saints would not back down from the challenge as he trapped Kazarian in a pinning predicament to score the first elimination for Team NXT. Moments later, Saints got his knees up on a Swanton 450 from Slater and pinned him for another elimination.
Moose inadvertently speared Santana, but Santana would persevere.
In the end, Santana connected with one final Spin the Block on Saints to score the victory for Team TNA.
Before Showdown went off the air, TNA Director of Authority Santino Marella and NXT General Manager Ava congratulated each other other on a great night of competition between the two brands. With the partnership back on track, Ava invited the TNA Knockouts to compete in a No. 1 Contenders Battle Royal for the NXT Women's Championship next Tuesday.
Also next week on NXT, TNA's Matt Cardona battles NXT's Josh Briggs.
THIS SUNDAY, October 12 at 7pm ET, TNA Wrestling presents Bound For Glory LIVE on pay-per-view and TNA+ from the Tsongas Center in Lowell, MA. Tickets are on-sale now at tsongascenter.evenue.net.
Oh, this news truly makes me excited! It's wonderful to see Santino and Ava getting this partnership back on track. When two big brands "harmonize" together like this, it promises to create explosive moments. It's just like when I play Sprunki Game; you have to patiently coordinate two different melodies to create a truly top-tier song.
